The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that José Pedro Mangueira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but David Xavier was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. A collision led to Salimen getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Wilson Moraes hit a great ball. 11 minutes into the game, Costa Rica Esporte Clube's José Pedro Mangueira nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. David Xavier made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. If Tarcisio Arce had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Betinho Ferraz's late challenge caught a Costa Rica Esporte Clube's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Betinho Ferraz helped the player get up and apologised. In the 22nd match minute, Salimen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Betinho Ferraz to maneuver through the defense. When Tarcisio Arce came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Costa Rica Esporte Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tarcisio Arce couldn't finish the play. David Xavier didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from José Pedro Mangueira went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Tarcisio Arce blasted a shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without David Xavier having to make a save. David Xavier showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from José Pedro Mangueira in the 36th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 40 minutes, Tarcisio Arce put it in 0-3 from a short distance just to the right of David Xavier. Salimen's David Xavier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tarcisio Arce in the 44th minute of play. 45 minutes into the game, Benedito Catarinense was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Salimen's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Costa Rica Esporte Clube the free kick. The supporters of Costa Rica Esporte Clube booed when Salimen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benedito Catarinense didn't get a good kick on the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Edmundo Bastos to make the kick off. Tarcisio Arces short, quick shot in the 54thth minute got David Xavier to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Costa Rica Esporte Clube were furious when Luiz Gustavo Tande was red carded, 55 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee gave Salimen a penalty, 58 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Betinho Ferraz, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Costa Rica Esporte Clube's Danilo Arce. 1-3. Toninho Paranaense struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. David Xavier didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Costa Rica Esporte Clube. After 70 minutes of play, Costa Rica Esporte Clube's Tarcisio Arce made it 1-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. David Xavier was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dorival Bittencourt in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Danilo Arce saved Costa Rica Esporte Clube from getting behind. Geovânio Ramalho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 78th minute of the match, but David Xavier made a huge save. 80 minutes into the game, Salimen's Edmundo Bastos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Danilo Arce made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-4. 85 minutes into the match, Salimen's goalkeeper David Xavier had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tarcisio Arce. Geovânio Ramalho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Costa Rica Esporte Clube's Danilo Arce played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorival Bittencourt in the 96th minute of play. Danilo Arce took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dorival Bittencourt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Costa Rica Esporte Clube's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
