A beautiful save bye Araranguá EC's goalie prevented a goal. With an all-out effort, Marlenopolis's Cafu de Queiroz threw himself towards the right post 6 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Luís Fábio Donatello, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 12 minutes into the match, Marlenopolis's Ruy Magalhães sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cafu de Queiroz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rafa de Lima recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Luís Fábio Donatello came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Marlenopolis fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luís Fábio Donatello couldn't finish the play. After 24 played minutes Araranguá EC got a freekick which was hit by Tomás Lima. Rafa de Lima received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Cafu de Queiroz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 26thth minute of the game Luís Fábio Donatello who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Araranguá EC's Cafu de Queiroz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 27th minute, Tomás Lima got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 29 minutes into the game, Gino Paes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Zé Pernambucano was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Leandro Barros hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Rafa de Lima could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Cafu de Queiroz made a huge save. If Rafa de Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Luís Fábio Donatello made the kick off in the second half.
