The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Raúl Valadares took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 5th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Manfredo Aparecido. Gavea Rio's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dráusio Travassos in the 11th minute of play forced Gavea Rio's goalkeeper Manfredo Aparecido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 13 minutes into the game, Dráusio Travassos cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Manfredo Aparecido was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a defensive mix-up in Kurumba F.C's zone, Edmundo Ferraz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rafa Catarinense came out of the goal and Edmundo Ferraz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 22 played minutes Gavea Rio got a freekick which was hit by Alfredinho Sena. Manfredo Aparecido made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelson Figueiredo in the 29th minute of play. After 32 played minutes Kurumba F.C got a freekick which was hit by Raúl Valadares. In the 34th minute, Alfredinho Sena got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Edmundo Ferraz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luizão França during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 36 played minutes Kurumba F.C got a freekick which was hit by Luizão França. In the 42nd minute Jairo Gaspar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manfredo Aparecido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Gavea Rio defense, Luizão França kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Manfredo Aparecido. The Gavea Rio fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Manfredo Aparecido should have stopped the shot. Gavea Rio's Manfredo Aparecido played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nelson Figueiredo in the 48th minute of play. The Gavea Rio players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Kurumba F.C were winning 0-2.

Manfredo Aparecido showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dráusio Travassos in the 52nd minute of the match. Through an outstanding action, after 56 minutes, Manfredo Aparecido successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Alfredinho Sena kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. If Dráusio Travassos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Silvério Schmidt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gavea Rio's Edmundo Ferraz quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Antônio Carlos Nascimento, made in the 76th minute of the game. Jairo Gaspar kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Edmundo Ferraz struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Rafa Catarinense didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gavea Rio. The audience was convinced that Dráusio Travassos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Manfredo Aparecido was relentless in the 85th minute of the game.
