The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, Magalhaes's Rafael Negri got a free kick in the 7th minute. Urawa Reds FC were furious when Diguinho Capixaba was red carded, 12 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 11 minutes into the game, one of Urawa Reds FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Luiz Fábio Porto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Chiquinho Félix tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Attila Berkes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Enéas Tinoco might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Chiquinho Félix. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Enéas Tinoco ran back to his position shaking his head. Enéas Tinoco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chiquinho Félix having to interfere. Jo Reichert kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. In the 29th minute, Rafael Negri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 36th match minute, Urawa Reds FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Oswaldo Meira to maneuver through the defense. 40 minutes into the game, Enéas Tinoco lined in a short shot 1-1 behind a frustrated Chiquinho Félix. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Attila Berkes made a kick off. Luiz Fábio Porto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Enéas Tinoco struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Chiquinho Félix didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Urawa Reds FC. César da Fonseca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enio de Sena having to interfere. Wilson Dante could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Enio de Sena made a huge save. Enio de Sena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from César da Fonseca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ernani Ribeiro charged in rather forcefully in the 64th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ernani Ribeiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 64th match minute, Magalhaes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ernani Ribeiro to maneuver through the defense. When César da Fonseca fell near the penalty area in the 65th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Magalhaes's protests and gave César da Fonseca a yellow card for diving instead. 69 minutes into the match, Magalhaes's goal looked a bit too open when Enéas Tinoco came free, but Chiquinho Félix reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 74th minute, Attila Berkes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Chiquinho Félix was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Oswaldo Meira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Chiquinho Félix tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Magalhaes's zone, Attila Berkes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Chiquinho Félix came out of the goal and Attila Berkes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 90 minutes, Enéas Tinoco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Urawa Reds FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Enéas Tinoco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Enéas Tinoco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chiquinho Félix having to interfere. When Attila Berkes came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Urawa Reds FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Attila Berkes couldn't finish the play. When the referee ended the match the Urawa Reds FC players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
