Through an outstanding action, after 28 minutes, Diamantino Meirelles successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After having played for 33 minutes, Virgílio do Nascimento managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Esporte Clube Bahia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Virgílio do Nascimento was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Piche's Paulo Cunha got a free kick in the 34th minute. Hílton Garcia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Daniel Abreu having to interfere. Daniel Abreu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Virgílio do Nascimento in the 41st minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Armandinho Araújo during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 46th minute of the game. One of Piche:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Esporte Clube Bahia:s goal. In the 48th minute there was a penalty for Esporte Clube Bahia. Luiz Guilherme dos Santos stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Daniel Abreu. 0-1. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

In the 64th of the match, Virgílio do Nascimento tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Daniel Abreu got in the way and made a wonderful save.
