The referee ignored Atlético Mineiro's protests and gave Durval Quintal a yellow card for diving instead. Durval Quintal kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Ventania's Duarte Luz got a free kick in the 5th minute. In the 11th minute Caio Meireles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Juninho Guedes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Atlético Mineiro's Virgílio Porto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cláudio Moura in the 14th minute of play. With a little luck, Ventania's Juninho Guedes got control of the ball when Aílton Tepedino tried to sneak it across the goal line. Humberto Queirós charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Humberto Queirós the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 17 played minutes Ventania got a freekick which was hit by Humberto Queirós. In the 27thth minute of the game Cláudio Moura who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Atlético Mineiro's Virgílio Porto was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edvaldo Velasco in the 30th minute of play forced Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Virgílio Porto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Virgílio Porto stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edvaldo Velasco's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. Cláudio Moura sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Durval Quintal was shown his second yellow card after 40 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. The supporters of Ventania booed when Atlético Mineiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Durval Quintal didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Edvaldo Velasco's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Virgílio Porto was relentless in the 42nd minute of the game. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Aílton Tepedino to make the kick off. Cláudio Moura took the ball and in the 54 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Virgílio Porto. Virgílio Porto dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. After 56 played minutes Ventania got a freekick which was hit by Mao Xun Jun. Juninho Guedes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aílton Tepedino in the 59th minute of play. Cláudio Moura received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Virgílio Porto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Atlético Mineiro defense, Cláudio Moura kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Virgílio Porto. The Atlético Mineiro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Virgílio Porto should have stopped the shot. Mao Xun Jun charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mao Xun Jun the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 67 played minutes Ventania got a freekick which was hit by Mao Xun Jun. Ventania's Juninho Guedes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aílton Tepedino in the 68th minute of play. A hard shot 70 in the game by Cláudio Moura from a close distance when the talented Virgílio Porto managed to make a qualified save. Atlético Mineiro's players were relieved. Edvaldo Velasco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Aílton Tepedino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aílton Tepedino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 90th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Atlético Mineiro's Caio Meireles got a free kick in the 92nd minute. The Atlético Mineiro fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ventania were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
