But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Telmo Bueno couldn't finish the play. Through an outstanding action, after 29 minutes, Virgílio Porto successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Gerson de Alcântara's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gilmar Dantas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 30th minute of play. 33 minutes into the match, Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Virgílio Porto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Telmo Bueno.
