Spectators: 7216 (Terracing: 5472, Seating: 1600, VIP seats: 144) Atlético Mineiro's Caio Meireles started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 2 minutes into the match, Juninho Medeiros notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Atlético Mineiro's Virgílio Porto. Virgílio Porto was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some careless play in the Atlético Mineiro defense, Juninho Medeiros kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Virgílio Porto. The Atlético Mineiro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Virgílio Porto should have stopped the shot. In the 10th minute, Claudinei Goiano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Edmund Neuber was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 11th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Virgílio Porto came out of the goal in the 13th minute to try and stop a shot by Gameleira's Aloísio Rosa. But to his dismay, Aloísio Rosa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. In the 18th minute, Aloísio Rosa made a precise shot to the right of Virgílio Porto. Atlético Mineiro's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. Aílton Tepedino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Moacir Barbosa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. In the 28th minute Juninho Medeiros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Virgílio Porto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Aloísio Rosa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gameleira's supporters rose to their feet, but Aloísio Rosa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Virgílio Porto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Virgílio Porto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juninho Medeiros, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. If Aloísio Rosa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Atlético Mineiro's Maurício Palmeira got a free kick in the 34th minute. Aloísio Rosa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 40th minute, Aloísio Rosa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 43 minutes into the game, Gameleira's Hélder Rosado nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Virgílio Porto made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-5.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Juninho Medeiros made a kick off. In the 54th minute, Gameleira's Juninho Medeiros ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Virgílio Porto. Virgílio Porto yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-6. A collision led to Gameleira getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Eurico Valadares hit a great ball. 67 minutes into the game, Hélder Rosado cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-7. Virgílio Porto was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Juninho Medeiros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 81st minute, Gameleira's Juninho Medeiros ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Virgílio Porto. Virgílio Porto yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-8. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juninho Medeiros in the 86th minute of play forced Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper Virgílio Porto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Mineiro's zone, Juninho Medeiros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Virgílio Porto came out of the goal and Juninho Medeiros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aloísio Rosa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Virgílio Porto having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 91 minutes, Virgílio Porto successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. When Claudinei Goiano fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Atlético Mineiro's protests and gave Claudinei Goiano a yellow card for diving instead. The long shot by Thiago Silva in the 95th minute really tested Virgílio Porto's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. When the match was over Gameleira could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Atlético Mineiro throughout the match.
