The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Hernani Tande took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Augusto Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 16th minute of the match Catalao got a corner. Juaba's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. João Augusto Damião ran over to the corner to take the kick. After having played for 17 minutes, Paulo José Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Catalao's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulo José Sena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Paulo José Sena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26th minute, Sandrinho de Sousa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Raúl Carvalho was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. After a defensive mix-up in Catalao's zone, Aírton Lucas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Raúl Carvalho came out of the goal and Aírton Lucas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell João Augusto Damião to make the kick off. If Aírton Lucas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 54 minutes of play, Catalao's Paulo José Sena made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Hernani Tande was left in no man's land by his defense there! Juaba's Hernani Tande played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Augusto Damião in the 62nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jardel Varela in the 65th minute of play forced Catalao's goalkeeper Raúl Carvalho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 68 minutes into the game, João Augusto Damião was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Catalao's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Juaba the free kick. In the 68th minute, João Augusto Damião hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aírton Lucas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jardel Varela in the 72nd minute of play forced Catalao's goalkeeper Raúl Carvalho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Raúl Carvalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jardel Varela in the 73rd minute of play. João Augusto Damião sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aírton Lucas in the 77th minute of play forced Catalao's goalkeeper Raúl Carvalho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hernani Tande was out of position in the 93 minute of play, and João Augusto Damião capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. João Augusto Damião really showed his touch with that goal: 2-2. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
