Luiz Eduardo Penha struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Cristóvão Ribeiro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AGF 22 de Janeiro. After 21 played minutes Cherente got a freekick which was hit by Edmundo Cearense. Cristóvão Ribeiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dadá Ramalho, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. When Mateus Motta fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cherente's protests and gave Mateus Motta a yellow card for diving instead. In the 24th match minute, Cherente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mateus Motta to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dadá Ramalho in the 28th minute of play forced Cherente's goalkeeper Cristóvão Ribeiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Umberto Cunha made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mateus Motta in the 44th minute. Cherente's Edu Amorim got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dadá Ramalho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 72nd minute, Vladimir Vieira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to AGF 22 de Janeiro getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Oséias Chaves hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 75 minutes, Oséias Chaves took a quick shot and it went in 0-1 without a chance for Cristóvão Ribeiro to make any attempt to save it. Oséias Chaves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristóvão Ribeiro having to interfere. Cherente succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though AGF 22 de Janeiro had controlled the match.
