The crowd rose to their feet as AGF 22 de Janeiro's Dadá Ramalho slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gilson Matorin. That made the score 1-0 after 9 minutes of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Oséias Chaves managed to get in a good position for a shot. AGF 22 de Janeiro's supporters rose to their feet, but Oséias Chaves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gilson Matorin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 13 minutes into the game, Umberto Abreu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Machado F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AGF 22 de Janeiro the free kick. With an all-out effort, AGF 22 de Janeiro's Gilson Matorin threw himself towards the right post 14 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Dadá Ramalho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 17 minutes into the game, Francisco Aguiar was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Machado F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AGF 22 de Janeiro the free kick. In the 18th minute, Francisco Aguiar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 21 minutes into the game, Dadá Ramalho recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Gilson Matorin. Dadá Ramalho showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. After some careless play in the AGF 22 de Janeiro defense, Alfredo Sousa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Umberto Cunha. The AGF 22 de Janeiro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Umberto Cunha should have stopped the shot. Alfredo Sousa got in the 34th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Umberto Cunha handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. AGF 22 de Janeiro's Oséias Chaves got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 40th minute, Armando Rossi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alfredo Sousa in the 44th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Umberto Cunha prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Alfredo Sousa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 48th minute, Armando Rossi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Umberto Cunha was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Alfredo Sousa made the kick off in the second half. Machado F.C.'s Gilson Matorin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dadá Ramalho in the 59th minute of play. Dadá Ramalho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilson Matorin having to interfere. AGF 22 de Janeiro's Umberto Cunha proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save AGF 22 de Janeiro from getting a goal against them. Dadá Ramalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Oséias Chaves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gilson Matorin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dadá Ramalho in the 74th minute of play. Armando Rossi might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Umberto Cunha. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Armando Rossi ran back to his position shaking his head. 76 minutes into the match, Machado F.C.'s Armando Rossi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Umberto Cunha narrowly saved just below the crossbar. AGF 22 de Janeiro's Umberto Cunha proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save AGF 22 de Janeiro from getting a goal against them. Alfredo Sousa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Umberto Cunha having to interfere. Luiz Eduardo Penha hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. Umberto Cunha came out of the goal in the 93rd minute to try and stop a shot by Machado F.C.'s Alfredo Sousa. But to his dismay, Alfredo Sousa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-3. After having played for 98 minutes, Armando Rossi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Machado F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Armando Rossi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The Machado F.C. supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Machado F.C. would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
