The referee ignored Benfica's protests and gave Edgard Donatello a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Benfica getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Edgard Donatello hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, SANTOS FOTTEBOL's Alessandro Breckenfeld tried to score from far away in the 9th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Tony Marques's late challenge caught a SANTOS FOTTEBOL's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tony Marques helped the player get up and apologised. After 11 played minutes Benfica got a freekick which was hit by Tony Marques. Breno Simão's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Murillo Peres read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ian Prata in the 20th minute of play forced SANTOS FOTTEBOL's goalkeeper Wilian Mendes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in SANTOS FOTTEBOL's zone, Ian Prata stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilian Mendes came out of the goal and Ian Prata tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Breno Simão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 35 minutes into the match, Ian Prata had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wilian Mendes. SANTOS FOTTEBOL's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ian Prata was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Wilian Mendes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joaquim Penha in the 39th minute of the match. In the 39th minute, Joaquim Penha left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Benfica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After the first half Benfica were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Breno Simão made the kick off in the second half. Murillo Peres was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When the match clock showed 86 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Joaquim Penha sped through SANTOS FOTTEBOL's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Wilian Mendes. SANTOS FOTTEBOL's Bruno Veiga got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Benfica players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
