São Paulo's Rubinho Terra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dida Vander in the 9th minute of play. In the 11th minute, Dida Vander got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hermínio Faria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ulysses Correia having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ronaldo Rossi in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ulysses Correia prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With an all-out effort, São Paulo's Ulysses Correia threw himself towards the right post 24 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ronaldo Rossi, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Rubinho Terra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dida Vander in the 25th minute of the match. In the 28th minute Acácio Hoffmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rubinho Terra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. São Paulo's Luís Eduardo Maranhense couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 46th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Gaucho. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ronaldo Rossi made a kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Gaucho's goal looked a bit too open when Hermínio Faria came free, but Ulysses Correia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Pedro Augusto Moreira fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gaucho's protests and gave Pedro Augusto Moreira a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of São Paulo booed when Gaucho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Augusto Moreira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hermínio Faria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Ulysses Correia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pedro Augusto Moreira got his second yellow card in the match during the 81st minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After 81 played minutes Gaucho got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Augusto Moreira. After 85 minutes, Ronaldo Rossi made it 3-0 with a short kick to the right side. Gaucho's Ulysses Correia tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience was convinced that Ronaldo Rossi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ulysses Correia was relentless in the 88th minute of the game. Giovanni Pinheiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rubinho Terra having to interfere. Acácio Hoffmann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
