Prego's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. In the 11th minute, Hélio Neto fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Caetano Pimenta hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Valdo Perez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leandro Tavares, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luiz Fábio Lago showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hélio Neto, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ezequiel Nogueira during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Jeferson Cardozo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Luiz Fábio Lago tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dieguinho Prestes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fábio Lago having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Jeferson Cardozo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Luiz Fábio Lago. That made the score 3-0 in the 42 minute of play. If Jeferson Cardozo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Zé de Almeida stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Jeferson Cardozo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luiz Fábio Lago saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Valdo Perez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé de Almeida in the 52nd minute of play. Marcel Veloso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fábio Lago having to interfere. Luiz Fábio Lago showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orlando Dias, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. After 62 minutes of play, Jacare's Jeferson Cardozo made it 5-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Luiz Fábio Lago was left in no man's land by his defense there! The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luizinho Pitta during the 66th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 66th match minute, Prego was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luizinho Pitta to maneuver through the defense. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Prego getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Edvaldo Andrade hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Noel Sabóia in the 87th minute of play forced Prego's goalkeeper Luiz Fábio Lago to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Prego getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Dedê de Brito hit a great ball. In the 95th minute the ball was on its way in behind Prego's goalkeeper Luiz Fábio Lago, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Marcel Veloso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jacare's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
