Grêmio Esportivo Brasil's Aírton Sabóia got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 14 minutes into the match, AC Catania's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Peixoto came free, but Vânderson Miranda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 26 minutes of play, Grêmio Esportivo Brasil's Cristian Peixoto made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Vânderson Miranda was left in no man's land by his defense there! Through an outstanding action, after 30 minutes, Wanderson Koehler successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The crowd rose to their feet as Christiano Sanches kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Wanderson Koehler. That made the score 1-1 in the 34 minute of play. Wanderson Koehler made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Fernandão Pirani sent off a good shot on target. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

If Christiano Sanches had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vânderson Miranda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aírton Sabóia in the 93rd minute of play. AC Catania were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest.
