Vânderson Miranda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horácio Salgado in the 16th minute of play. Christiano Sanches scored 1-1 in the 17th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jano Cerezo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Acácio Barros got free with Vânderson Miranda in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 25 played minutes AC Catania got a freekick which was hit by Fabinho Paulista. After recieving a nice pass, Poncianos's Luciano Loyola tried to score from far away in the 26th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Vânderson Miranda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dieguinho Jacinto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Acácio Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Horácio Salgado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jano Cerezo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Christiano Sanches, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

If Fernandão Pirani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Christiano Sanches sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 61 minutes into the match, AC Catania's goal looked a bit too open when Horácio Salgado came free, but Vânderson Miranda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Acácio Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot. Poncianos's supporters rose to their feet, but Acácio Barros was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vânderson Miranda breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Horácio Salgado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. Vânderson Miranda showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Acácio Barros, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Acácio Barros in the 71st minute of play forced AC Catania's goalkeeper Vânderson Miranda to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fernandão Pirani sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Horácio Salgado couldn't finish the play. 3-1 became the score in the 87th minute when Horácio Salgado elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Horácio Salgado in the 90th minute of play forced AC Catania's goalkeeper Vânderson Miranda to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Acácio Barros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Poncianos fully deserved thier win.
