Juvenal de Godoi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Cássio Mendes came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Peripiri fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cássio Mendes couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Carlos Alberto Siqueira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Peripiri's supporters rose to their feet, but Carlos Alberto Siqueira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. The supporters of Peripiri booed when Cruzeiro EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fiori Cardozo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fiori Cardozo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Valdo das Neves made a huge save. Juvenal de Godoi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guilherme Peixoto in the 36th minute of play. After having played for 37 minutes, Zé Roberto de Sousa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Peripiri's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zé Roberto de Sousa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fabiano do Vale hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. In the 75th minute, a hard, long distance shot from Nilmar Leite hit the top of the crossbar and flew over the goal. Valdo das Neves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Diguinho Alcântara in the 80th minute of the match. Zé Roberto de Sousa received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Juvenal de Godoi came out and tried to block the shot, but Zé Roberto de Sousa slotted it home off the left post making it 0-5 in the 82nd minute. In the 87th minute the ball was on its way in behind Cruzeiro EC's goalkeeper Juvenal de Godoi, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Zé Roberto de Sousa might have been able to make a better finish in the 90th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Juvenal de Godoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zé Roberto de Sousa ran back to his position shaking his head. Miguel Senna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Cruzeiro EC's Juvenal de Godoi got control of the ball when Zé Roberto de Sousa tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 94thth minute of the game Carlos Alberto Siqueira who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Cruzeiro EC's Juvenal de Godoi was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When the final whistle sounded Peripiri left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Cruzeiro EC.
