After a defensive mix-up in Máquina Mortífera S.C's zone, Aníbal Brodel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cleiton Furlan came out of the goal and Aníbal Brodel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 24th minute, Jardel Schmidt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jaime Souto kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. In the 26th match minute, São Thiago Matamouros was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Teodoro Penha to maneuver through the defense. Jardel Schmidt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cleiton Furlan having to interfere. When Giovani Paranaense came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the São Thiago Matamouros fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Giovani Paranaense couldn't finish the play. Evandro Cunha's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Magne Vase read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
