Flavinho do Vale recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 5th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 10th match minute, Coqueiros was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cipriano Tinoco to maneuver through the defense. Horizonte's Anísio Barral got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Júlio Xavier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aníbal Gomes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristiano de Barros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Anísio Barral's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sérgio Tande read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Flavinho do Vale got free with Sérgio Tande in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 20 minutes into the match, Coqueiros's goal looked a bit too open when Anísio Barral came free, but Sérgio Tande reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bebeto Figueiredo charged in rather forcefully in the 21st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bebeto Figueiredo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Bebeto Figueiredo hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. If Anísio Barral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Flavinho do Vale struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Sérgio Tande didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Horizonte. After a rather tough play, Horizonte's Bebeto Figueiredo got a free kick in the 28th minute. Sérgio Tande showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anísio Barral in the 31st minute of the match. Romeu Carioca struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Sérgio Tande didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Horizonte. When Bebeto Figueiredo was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 38 minutes had been played. In the 39th match minute, Horizonte was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bebeto Figueiredo to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Horizonte getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Romeu Carioca hit a great ball. An unexpected shot in the 48th minute by Flavinho do Vale got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Anísio Barral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 49th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cristiano de Barros made a kick off. Horizonte's Flavinho do Vale got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 59 played minutes Horizonte got a freekick which was hit by Flavinho do Vale. In the 61st minute, Romeu Carioca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Coqueiros getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Rodrigo Cardoso hit a great ball. Romeu Carioca took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 66th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Sérgio Tande. Coqueiros's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After having played for 67 minutes, Flavinho do Vale managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Horizonte's supporters crossed their fingers, but Flavinho do Vale was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sérgio Tande came out of the goal in the 72nd minute to try and stop a shot by Horizonte's Flavinho do Vale. But to his dismay, Flavinho do Vale quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Aníbal Gomes didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Júlio Xavier went, in the 76th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Júlio Xavier managed to get in a good position for a shot. Coqueiros's supporters rose to their feet, but Júlio Xavier was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aníbal Gomes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Horizonte's Aníbal Gomes got control of the ball when Júlio Xavier tried to sneak it across the goal line. 86 minutes into the match, Horizonte's Flavinho do Vale sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sérgio Tande narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Anísio Barral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Horizonte's Flavinho do Vale in the 89th minute got a chance for a shot 89th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Coqueiros's goalie prevented a goal. The supporters of Coqueiros booed when Horizonte was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Acácio Leite didn't get a good kick on the ball. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Horizonte had played much better football throughout.
