An unexpected shot in the 34th minute by Clóvis Tavares got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 45 minutes into the match, Independente's goal looked a bit too open when Basílio de Mendonça came free, but Luciano Magalhães reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

Flavinho da Costa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dorival Duarte, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Vágner Torres in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Flavinho da Costa saved União Agrícola Barbarense from getting behind. After having played for 96 minutes, Dorival Duarte managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Independente's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dorival Duarte was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
