In the 5th minute Vágner Torres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edgard de Castro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vágner Torres blasted a shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Edgard de Castro having to make a save. After having played for 10 minutes, Dorival Duarte managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Independente's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dorival Duarte was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Flávio Simões during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Independente getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Flávio Simões hit a great ball. Flávio Simões kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. If Dorival Duarte had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Vágner Torres came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Independente fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vágner Torres couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Mantena Canela de Aço's Edgard de Castro got control of the ball when Dorival Duarte tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Mantena Canela de Aço's Nelson Sabóia got a free kick in the 22nd minute. In the 25th minute, Nelson Sabóia ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Luciano Magalhães was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Nelson Sabóia struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Luciano Magalhães didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mantena Canela de Aço. After a defensive mix-up in Independente's zone, Marco Proença stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luciano Magalhães came out of the goal and Marco Proença tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nelson Sabóia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nelson Sabóia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nelson Sabóia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Luciano Magalhães tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dorival Duarte stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Mantena Canela de Aço's Edgard de Castro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorival Duarte in the 53rd minute of play. Vágner Torres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Mantena Canela de Aço's zone, Fred Pitta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edgard de Castro came out of the goal and Fred Pitta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luciano Magalhães made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Nelson Sabóia sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Mantena Canela de Aço's Marco Proença got a free kick in the 62nd minute. When Independente's Dorival Duarte in the 63rd minute got a chance for a shot 63rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Mantena Canela de Aço's goalie prevented a goal. Nelson Sabóia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luciano Magalhães having to interfere. 69 minutes into the match, Dorival Duarte notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Mantena Canela de Aço's Edgard de Castro. Edgard de Castro was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 75 minutes of play, Mantena Canela de Aço's Nelson Sabóia made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Luciano Magalhães was left in no man's land by his defense there! Dorival Duarte kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. Nelson Sabóia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 80 played minutes Independente got a freekick which was hit by Vágner Torres. Nelson Sabóia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Luciano Magalhães tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 84 minutes into the match, Independente's goalkeeper Luciano Magalhães had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nelson Sabóia. When Luís Fernando Viana came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Mantena Canela de Aço fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luís Fernando Viana couldn't finish the play. In the 90th minute the ball was on its way in behind Independente's goalkeeper Luciano Magalhães, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Nelson Sabóia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luciano Magalhães having to interfere. If Nelson Sabóia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
