If João Carlos Hermes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in América-RS's zone, Chiquinho do Vale stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Otávio Queiroz came out of the goal and Chiquinho do Vale tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Chiquinho do Vale fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otávio Queiroz having to interfere. With an all-out effort, Pescoco's Otávio Queiroz threw himself towards the right post 17 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from João Carlos Hermes, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. América-RS's Otávio Queiroz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 24th minute of the match, managed to save América-RS from getting a goal against them. After 24 played minutes América-RS got a freekick which was hit by André Luís Montenegro. 25 minutes into the match, América-RS's goal looked a bit too open when João Carlos Hermes came free, but Otávio Queiroz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, Luizão do Valle notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Pescoco's Gláuber Trancoso. Gláuber Trancoso was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With a little luck, América-RS's Otávio Queiroz got control of the ball when Gonçalo Costa tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 38th match minute, América-RS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fábio Paraíba to maneuver through the defense. Ezequiel Campidelis, 40 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Otávio Queiroz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Carlos Hermes, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. Gláuber Trancoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luizão do Valle in the 47th minute of the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luizão do Valle to make the kick off. Pescoco's Gonçalo Costa pulled a muscle in his back after 56 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Douglas Schmidt's late challenge caught a Pescoco's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Douglas Schmidt helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, América-RS's Douglas Schmidt got a free kick in the 57th minute. In the 60thth minute of the game Chiquinho do Vale who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but América-RS's Otávio Queiroz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Júlio Romero sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 66th minute Luizão do Valle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gláuber Trancoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 70 played minutes Pescoco got a freekick which was hit by Décio Tinoco. Gláuber Trancoso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luizão do Valle, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. América-RS's Otávio Queiroz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chiquinho do Vale in the 79th minute of play. If João Carlos Hermes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Chiquinho do Vale received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Otávio Queiroz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Luizão do Valle's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gláuber Trancoso was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chiquinho do Vale in the 96th minute of play forced América-RS's goalkeeper Otávio Queiroz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
