Croa's Zé Pedro Proença played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luizão do Valle in the 5th minute of play. Dudu Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 11 minutes, Hortêncio Gomes made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. América-RS's Otávio Queiroz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Croa getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Dudu Medeiros hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Júlio Romero got free with Zé Pedro Proença in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The audience was convinced that Luizão do Valle's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Zé Pedro Proença was relentless in the 24th minute of the game. After 37 minutes, Vitório Mesquita mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Croa and the América-RS players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 37th match minute, Croa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vitório Mesquita to maneuver through the defense. Luizão do Valle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zé Pedro Proença having to interfere. 46 minutes had been played when some careless play by América-RS's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Denílson Barros was slow to take the kick. During this time Croa's players had a chance to rest. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luizão do Valle to make the kick off. Hortêncio Gomes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otávio Queiroz having to interfere. Otávio Queiroz came out of the goal in the 53rd minute to try and stop a shot by Croa's Dudu Medeiros. But to his dismay, Dudu Medeiros quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by José Paulo de Medeiros during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When Durvalino Bezerra fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored América-RS's protests and gave Durvalino Bezerra a yellow card for diving instead. After 59 played minutes América-RS got a freekick which was hit by Durvalino Bezerra. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hortêncio Gomes in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Otávio Queiroz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dida de Queiroz during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Dida de Queiroz hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Hudson de Salles was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 65 minutes into the match. 64 minutes into the game, one of América-RS:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. With a little luck, América-RS's Otávio Queiroz got control of the ball when Dudu Medeiros tried to sneak it across the goal line. Zé Pedro Proença showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Júlio Romero, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. If Dudu Medeiros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Otávio Queiroz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hortêncio Gomes in the 77th minute of the match. Cacá Sergipano charged in rather forcefully in the 82nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cacá Sergipano the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Cacá Sergipano hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. Dudu Medeiros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otávio Queiroz having to interfere.
