Gilvan Leite dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Marcus Costa struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. José Carlos Vinhas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Congonhas SC. After 10 played minutes Grêmio FC got a freekick which was hit by Juvenal Trancoso. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marcus Costa in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck José Carlos Vinhas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. José Carlos Vinhas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcus Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nelsinho de Senna during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 27th minute, Nelsinho de Senna hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Telmo de Toledo shot from long distance in the 28th minute, but Gil Damião was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. Marcus Costa took the ball and in the 29 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised José Carlos Vinhas. José Carlos Vinhas dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. In the 39th minute Hélder Leite shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Carlos Vinhas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marcus Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Carlos Vinhas having to interfere. Grêmio FC's José Carlos Vinhas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcus Costa in the 43rd minute of play. José Carlos Vinhas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcus Costa in the 45th minute of the match. The Grêmio FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Congonhas SC were winning 0-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Paulinho Vidal to strike the kick off in the second half. After having played for 53 minutes, Paulinho Vidal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulinho Vidal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Paulinho Vidal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Gil Damião tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marcus Costa's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 60thth minute, José Carlos Vinhas skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Congonhas SC's Hélder Leite got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paulinho Vidal in the 65th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gil Damião saved Congonhas SC from getting behind. With a little luck, Grêmio FC's José Carlos Vinhas got control of the ball when Marcus Costa tried to sneak it across the goal line. José Carlos Vinhas came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by Congonhas SC's Marcus Costa. But to his dismay, Marcus Costa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. José Carlos Vinhas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Marcus Costa in the 72nd minute. Hélder Leite fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Carlos Vinhas having to interfere. If Rony Moreno had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle sounded Congonhas SC left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Grêmio FC.
