Gilvan Leite struck a weak shot in the 6th minute. Adriano Koehler didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio FC. In the 12th match minute, Grêmio FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anísio Carneiro to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio FC's zone, Gilson Baiano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Carlos Vinhas came out of the goal and Gilson Baiano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Grêmio FC's goalkeeper José Carlos Vinhas, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Gilson Baiano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Cido Paraíba put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of José Carlos Vinhas. In the 28th minute, Gilson Baiano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Gilvan Leite had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Betinho Paiva hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Gilvan Leite fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adriano Koehler having to interfere. Macedo Futebol e Regatas's Adriano Koehler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulinho Vidal in the 35th minute of play. When Cido Paraíba came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Macedo Futebol e Regatas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cido Paraíba couldn't finish the play. Cido Paraíba fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Carlos Vinhas having to interfere. Anísio Carneiro kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. In the 44th minute, Gilvan Leite fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Paulinho Vidal to strike the kick off in the second half. The Macedo Futebol e Regatas fans' excitement grew in the 67th match minute when Macedo Futebol e Regatas's Gilson Baiano looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. Grêmio FC's José Carlos Vinhas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Grêmio FC from getting a goal against them. 84 minutes into the match, Grêmio FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gilson Baiano came free, but José Carlos Vinhas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gilvan Leite received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Adriano Koehler tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gilvan Leite sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the final whistle sounded Macedo Futebol e Regatas left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Grêmio FC.
