The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by João Diniz during the 7th minute. In the 20th minute Jeremias Mazza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but César Araújo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Erasmo Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 26 minutes into the match, Toropy's Murillo Gaúcho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wellington de Sousa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Murillo Gaúcho in the 30th minute of play forced Esperança's goalkeeper Wellington de Sousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Murillo Gaúcho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wellington de Sousa having to interfere. César Araújo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jeremias Mazza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Walmyr França in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg César Araújo saved Toropy from getting behind. In the 48th play minute Ulisses Almeida came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Wellington de Sousa. 1-1. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esperança's goalkeeper Wellington de Sousa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Murillo Gaúcho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Wellington de Sousa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 70 minutes into the match, Toropy's Ulisses Almeida sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wellington de Sousa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Murillo Gaúcho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wellington de Sousa having to interfere. Toropy's César Araújo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Walmyr França in the 77th minute of play. After 78 minutes, Erasmo Amorim mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Toropy and the Esperança players grew even worse after the yellow card. Walmyr França received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. César Araújo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Walmyr França had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 92nd minute of the match Oswaldo de Barros shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Wellington de Sousa showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Murillo Gaúcho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Wellington de Sousa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Murillo Gaúcho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wellington de Sousa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 99th minute of play. Toropy were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Esperança to leave the ground with a draw.
