Parnaiba EC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Álvaro Montenegro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Insulano Esporte Clube's Basílio Maranhense proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save Insulano Esporte Clube from getting a goal against them. If Abelardo Sena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Basílio Maranhense made an important save on a dangerous shot by José Vítor Cunha in the 27th minute. If Álvaro Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Álvaro Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Waldir Aparecido. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Álvaro Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. Cássio Baiano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Waldir Aparecido read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cássio Baiano made a kick off. In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind Insulano Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Basílio Maranhense, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Through an outstanding action, after 61 minutes, Waldir Aparecido successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Abelardo Sena in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Basílio Maranhense prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match clock showed 69 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Álvaro Montenegro sped through Parnaiba EC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Waldir Aparecido. Cássio Baiano scored 0-3 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Waldir Aparecido, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Abelardo Sena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Basílio Maranhense showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from José Vítor Cunha in the 83rd minute of the match. In the 85th minute, Elder Passos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cássio Baiano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Insulano Esporte Clube supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Insulano Esporte Clube would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
