The referee ordered Nilson Brasil off the ground. After 14 played minutes Parnaiba EC got a freekick which was hit by Nilson Brasil. In the 14th minute, Luiz Guilherme Souto sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Parnaiba EC's Waldir Aparecido didn't even have to move. Parnaiba EC's José Vítor Cunha got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelsinho Alvarenga in the 36th minute of play forced Parnaiba EC's goalkeeper Waldir Aparecido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fábio de Azevedo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Vítor Cunha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 41 minutes, José Vítor Cunha managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Parnaiba EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but José Vítor Cunha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and José Vítor Cunha made a kick off. Waldir Aparecido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nelsinho Alvarenga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Parnaiba EC getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Abelardo Sena hit a great ball. In the 58th minute Nelsinho Alvarenga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Waldir Aparecido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. José Vítor Cunha was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 62nd minute. Parnaiba EC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. If José Vítor Cunha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fábio de Azevedo made a fantastic save in the 80th minute, when Abelardo Sena sent off a good shot on target. Luís Fernando de Lara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldir Aparecido having to interfere. Luiz Fábio Prata sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When José Vítor Cunha came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Parnaiba EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Vítor Cunha couldn't finish the play. José Vítor Cunha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 96th match minute, Arapoti was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zé Carlos Ribeiro to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Arapoti had won after a very even match.
