When Bahia's Ricardinho Batista in 6 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Rafael da Mata guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. After having played for 7 minutes, Virgílio Baiano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bahia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Virgílio Baiano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 11th minute, Ricardinho Batista ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rafael da Mata was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Rafael da Mata took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Virgílio Baiano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rafael da Mata showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Virgílio Baiano in the 24th minute of the match. In the 27th minute Cícero Fonseca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reginaldo Matos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Celsinho Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Montes Claros FC booed when Bahia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valdir Lucas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Reginaldo Matos came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Montes Claros FC's Cícero Fonseca. But to his dismay, Cícero Fonseca quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. A collision led to Bahia getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Valdir Lucas hit a great ball. Celsinho Castro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Reginaldo Matos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Celsinho Castro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Montes Claros FC's Rafael da Mata got control of the ball when Ricardinho Batista tried to sneak it across the goal line. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Virgílio Baiano made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ricardinho Batista in the 52nd minute of play forced Montes Claros FC's goalkeeper Rafael da Mata to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 54th minute, Virgílio Baiano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 56th minute of the match Bahia got a corner. Montes Claros FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. If Ricardinho Batista had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rafael da Mata made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricardinho Batista in the 94th minute of play. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
