When Guga Zanette came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Vasto AD fans jumped to their feet. The audience was convinced that Jânio Soares's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Reginaldo Matos was relentless in the 16th minute of the game. The supporters of Bahia booed when Vasto AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lenílson Quadros didn't get a good kick on the ball. Reginaldo Matos didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jânio Soares went, in the 69th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Rafael Paes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reginaldo Matos having to interfere. Guga Zanette received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Reginaldo Matos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rafael Paes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the Bahia defense, Guga Zanette kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Reginaldo Matos. The Bahia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Reginaldo Matos should have stopped the shot.
