Pedrão Bertassi made in the 6th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Edmundo Godoi immediately put the ball in play. Vasto AD's Cauã Prestes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Celsinho Castro in the 15th minute of play. Jânio Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rafael da Mata having to interfere. Rafael Paes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Guga Zanettes short, quick shot in the 26thth minute got Rafael da Mata to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. André Reis kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Zeca Trancoso hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. In the 33rd minute of the match Doni Schmidt sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rafael da Mata skillfully saved the ball. Montes Claros FC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Guga Zanette 39 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. When Celsinho Castro fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Montes Claros FC's protests and gave Celsinho Castro a yellow card for diving instead. In the 42nd match minute, Montes Claros FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Celsinho Castro to maneuver through the defense. When Celsinho Castro came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Montes Claros FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Celsinho Castro couldn't finish the play. An unexpected shot in the 46th minute by Guga Zanette got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After a rather tough play, Montes Claros FC's Zeca Trancoso got a free kick in the 47th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jânio Soares to strike the kick off in the second half. Cauã Prestes was a little too slow when Celsinho Castro got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 56th minute. The score was now 1-1. Rafael da Mata showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Paes in the 70th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cícero Fonseca got free with Cauã Prestes in the 73rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 75 minutes, Luís Fernando Cruz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vasto AD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luís Fernando Cruz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Guga Zanette in the 77th minute of play forced Montes Claros FC's goalkeeper Rafael da Mata to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 84th match minute, Montes Claros FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cícero Fonseca to maneuver through the defense. Cauã Prestes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Celsinho Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rafael Paes struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Rafael da Mata didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vasto AD. The Vasto AD manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Montes Claros FC to win.
