Doni de Moraes charged in rather forcefully in the 10th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Doni de Moraes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Royal Anderlecht:s Serginho Reis showed great skill when he stopped Mané Figueiredo:s penalty. 11 minutes into the match, Mané Figueiredo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Serginho Reis. Royal Anderlecht's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mané Figueiredo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Kléberson Jacinto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Vítor Passos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kléberson Jacinto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Vítor Passos in the 19th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vitório Falcão in the 24th minute of play forced Royal Anderlecht's goalkeeper Serginho Reis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Serginho Reis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vitório Falcão in the 40th minute of the match. In the 40th minute, Vitório Falcão ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Serginho Reis was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Vitório Falcão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Serginho Reis having to interfere. Dito Penha's late challenge caught a EXCELSIOR FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dito Penha helped the player get up and apologised. Dito Penha hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. If Almir Messias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vitório Falcão stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Serginho Reis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vitório Falcão in the 53rd minute of the match. A collision led to Royal Anderlecht getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. João Vítor Schmidt hit a great ball. Almir Messias struck a weak shot in the 85th minute. Serginho Reis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for EXCELSIOR FC. Almir Messias scored 4-1 in the 87th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Serginho Reis, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Royal Anderlecht booed when EXCELSIOR FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romário Almeida didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 98th minute, Tiago Gabriel Vale hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Royal Anderlecht's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
