Eugênio Barros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Kléberson Jacinto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kléberson Jacinto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eugênio Barros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Clóvis de Queirós made an important save on a dangerous shot by Almir Messias in the 7th minute. If Vitório Falcão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Don Peponi FC's Clóvis de Queirós got control of the ball when Almir Messias tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 12th minute, Almir Messias got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 14th minute Benjamin Carioca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kléberson Jacinto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Don Peponi FC's Clóvis de Queirós got control of the ball when Almir Messias tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Don Peponi FC's zone, Almir Messias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Clóvis de Queirós came out of the goal and Almir Messias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 36th match minute, Don Peponi FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Álvaro Mattos to maneuver through the defense. Kléberson Jacinto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eugênio Barros in the 39th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Vitório Falcão made a kick off. Clóvis de Queirós showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Almir Messias, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Vitório Falcão in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Clóvis de Queirós prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 55th minute EXCELSIOR FC were awarded a corner. Mané Figueiredo went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Zé Queiroz got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Clóvis de Queirós quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 59 minutes into the match, Almir Messias notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Don Peponi FC's Clóvis de Queirós. Clóvis de Queirós was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 68 minutes into the match, Benjamin Carioca dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Kléberson Jacinto, 2-1. 79 minutes into the match, EXCELSIOR FC's goalkeeper Kléberson Jacinto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eugênio Barros. Clóvis de Queirós took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Almir Messias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of EXCELSIOR FC booed when Don Peponi FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nestor Saraiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. Álvaro Mattos struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Kléberson Jacinto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Don Peponi FC. EXCELSIOR FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Don Peponi FC for a fine match.
