Spectators: 6659 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1659, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Manoel Dracena started the match with the kick off. After a rather tough play, Rio Preto F.C.'s Geovanni Teixeira got a free kick in the 9th minute. Luiz Fábio Araújo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manoel Dracena, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. When Manoel Dracena came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Pombas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manoel Dracena couldn't finish the play. Ademir Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruy Pinheiro having to interfere. In the 26th minute, Claudinho Bittencourt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ruy Pinheiro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristóvão Bastos's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Pombas's goalkeeper Ruy Pinheiro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Luiz Fábio Araújo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Manoel Dracena in the 31st minute of play. Rio Preto F.C.'s Ademir Montenegro got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Silas de Alcântara kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. Luiz Fábio Araújo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Denílson Dantas went, in the 41st minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. After 45 minutes, Denílson Dantas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Pombas and the Rio Preto F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. Denílson Dantas hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match.

In the 57th minute Cristóvão Bastos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ruy Pinheiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Manoel Dracena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 63rdth minute of the game Cristóvão Bastos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Pombas's Ruy Pinheiro was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Denílson Dantas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fábio Araújo having to interfere. Rio Preto F.C.'s Luiz Fábio Araújo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Manoel Dracena in the 68th minute of play. In the 71st minute, Claudinho Bittencourt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 84th minute, Denílson Dantas left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Pombas fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. In the 88th minute, Denílson Dantas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Manoel Dracena's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luiz Fábio Araújo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the Rio Preto F.C. players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Pombas.
