Dário Custódio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Ricardinho Prestes made a huge save. Dário Custódio's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ricardinho Prestes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. Falcão Furtado came out of the goal in the 30th minute to try and stop a shot by Palmares AD's Claudinei Negri. But to his dismay, Claudinei Negri quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. 34 minutes in the game, Thiago Loyola fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Ricardinho Prestes having to interfere. Thiago Loyola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardinho Prestes having to interfere. 39 minutes into the game, Eliézer Bastos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fenix's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Palmares AD the free kick. Carlos Brito charged in rather forcefully in the 61st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. When Ediberto Santos came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Palmares AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ediberto Santos couldn't finish the play. 68 minutes into the game, Fenix's Dário Custódio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ricardinho Prestes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Ediberto Santos received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Falcão Furtado came out and tried to block the shot, but Ediberto Santos slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 88th minute. If Jânio Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gilberto Passos's late challenge caught a Palmares AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gilberto Passos helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Palmares AD booed when Fenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gilberto Passos didn't get a good kick on the ball.
