But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernani Teixeira couldn't finish the play. Paulo Renato Mendes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Charles Abreu in the 12th minute. Charles Abreu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 18 played minutes Aroeirinha got a freekick which was hit by Kléber Salles. Paulo Renato Mendes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nilson Prata, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Charles Abreu might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paulo Renato Mendes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Osvaldo Maia to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ernani Teixeira in the 59th minute of play forced Muri EC's goalkeeper Erasmo Pimenta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
