Canto do Rio's defense didn't have a chance, in the 14th minute, when Felippe Coelho scored to the left of an out of position Fausto Simões, making the score, 1-2. Canto do Rio's Luizão Zonta got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Gremio FC getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Antônio Aparecido hit a great ball. Luizão Zonta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Duda Toscano having to interfere. With a left leg Duda Toscano saved Gremio FC from getting behind. Canto do Rio's Fausto Simões proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save Canto do Rio from getting a goal against them. Bruno Paraíba kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. If Thiago Matos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Canto do Rio fans' excitement grew in the 38th match minute when Canto do Rio's Thiago Matos looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Bruno Paraíba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Duda Toscano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thiago Matos in the 45th minute of the match. In the 47thth minute of the game Thiago Matos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Gremio FC's Duda Toscano was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nestor Madureira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Canto do Rio's Fausto Simões played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Paulo Reis in the 52nd minute of play. Elói Arruda kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. In the 54th minute, Thiago Matos fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Duda Toscano didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Canto do Rio's Thiago Matos shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-4 in the ordered_time% minute. Thiago Matos struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Duda Toscano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Canto do Rio. With a little luck, Gremio FC's Duda Toscano got control of the ball when Thiago Matos tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 68th match minute, Gremio FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nestor Madureira to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelson Mineiro in the 89th minute of play forced Gremio FC's goalkeeper Duda Toscano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Canto do Rio's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
