After a rather tough play, Indio's Josué Cavalcante got a free kick in the 4th minute. Sangaia's Marquinhos Quintal shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 5th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Washington Valle but with some difficulty. Indio's Washington Valle played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Toninho Gomes in the 6th minute of play. Dênis Barbosa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Josué Cavalcante in the 10th minute of play. In the 11th minute, Valério Tavares left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Indio fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. In the 14th minute Josué Cavalcante shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dênis Barbosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 20th minute, Sydney Breckenfeld hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rômulo Paiva hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Valério Tavares scored 1-2 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dênis Barbosa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Sydney Breckenfeld sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With his leg Washington Valle managed to avoid a goal in the 33rdth minute, when Sangaia's Sydney Breckenfeld fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When the match had gone on for 34 minutes, Sydney Breckenfeld put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Washington Valle. Rômulo Paiva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Washington Valle showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Toninho Gomes, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. Washington Valle took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Toninho Gomes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 48th minute, Sangaia's Marquinhos Quintal seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Marquinhos Quintal the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Sangaia protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Marquinhos Quintal had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 47 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Sangaia! The Sangaia players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Indio were winning 2-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Josué Cavalcante stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute, Sydney Breckenfeld ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Washington Valle was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-3. After 60 minutes, Valério Tavares mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Indio and the Sangaia players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 61 played minutes Indio got a freekick which was hit by Valério Tavares. After 63 minutes of play Indio's Valério Tavares was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 64 played minutes Indio got a freekick which was hit by Valério Tavares. A collision led to Indio getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Laércio Fontes hit a great ball. Rômulo Paiva took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 67th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Washington Valle. Indio's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Josué Cavalcante's late challenge caught a Sangaia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Josué Cavalcante helped the player get up and apologised. In the 69th minute, Josué Cavalcante hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sydney Breckenfeld fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Washington Valle having to interfere. In the 89th minute Josué Cavalcante shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dênis Barbosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joaquim Pena in the 91st minute of play forced Sangaia's goalkeeper Dênis Barbosa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 94 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Indio! Toninho Gomes walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. The supporters of Sangaia booed when Indio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 102 match minutes in a wonderful position. Laércio Fontes didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Indio supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Indio would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
