The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute André Luís da Mata shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gilson Perez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 7 minutes into the match, Pontal's goalkeeper Gilson Perez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jeremias Almeida. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bruninho Pitta in the 14th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Beto Garcia saved Quarany EC from getting behind. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 17th minute of the game. One of Pontal:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Quarany EC:s goal. Wellington Freire shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Nilton Pirani managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pontal's supporters rose to their feet, but Nilton Pirani was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Beto Garcia breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Edgar de Amorim hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. When Remo de Souza fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Pontal's protests and gave Remo de Souza a yellow card for diving instead. In the 47th minute of the match Wellington Freire shot from a long distance. Quarany EC's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
