Caricaca's Damião Valente pulled a muscle in his back after 4 minutes and couldn't finish the game. 4 minutes into the game, Frédson Leme was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Criciúma E.C's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Caricaca the free kick. Augusto Varela blasted a shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Caco Valle having to make a save. After having played for 8 minutes, Augusto Varela managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Caricaca's supporters crossed their fingers, but Augusto Varela was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Augusto Varela came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Caricaca fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Augusto Varela couldn't finish the play. 13 minutes into the match, Augusto Varela had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Caco Valle. Criciúma E.C's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Augusto Varela was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After 16 played minutes Caricaca got a freekick which was hit by Andreas Käller. Caco Valle took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Augusto Varela, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Augusto Varela recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mateus Moreira kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliézer Duarte in the 30th minute of play forced Caricaca's goalkeeper Paulo Renato de Brito to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cristiano de Castro hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Augusto Varela scored 0-2 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Caco Valle, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Luiz Fabiano Souza might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paulo Renato de Brito. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luiz Fabiano Souza ran back to his position shaking his head. Caricaca's Paulo Renato de Brito proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Caricaca from getting a goal against them. The crowd rose to their feet as Eliézer Duarte kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Paulo Renato de Brito. That made the score 1-2 in the 43 minute of play. In the 45th minute, Augusto Varela got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Eliézer Duarte stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Caco Valle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andreas Käller in the 54th minute of play. The Caricaca fans' excitement grew in the 56th match minute when Caricaca's Augusto Varela looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 59th minute of the match Ediberto Faria shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Paulo Renato de Brito showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 60th minute, Agostinho Porto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Criciúma E.C's Luiz Fabiano Souza in the 63rd minute got a chance for a shot 63rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After a rather tough play, Criciúma E.C's Agostinho Porto got a free kick in the 65th minute. 72 minutes into the match, Criciúma E.C's goal looked a bit too open when Augusto Varela came free, but Caco Valle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Caricaca defense, Eliézer Duarte kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Paulo Renato de Brito. The Caricaca fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Paulo Renato de Brito should have stopped the shot. Paulo Renato de Brito showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Frédson Leme, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. Augusto Varela received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Caco Valle tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ediberto Faria during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ediberto Faria hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. A collision led to Caricaca getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Wágner Lago hit a great ball. When Luiz Fabiano Souza fell near the penalty area in the 89th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Criciúma E.C's protests and gave Luiz Fabiano Souza a yellow card for diving instead. If Augusto Varela had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 95th minute, Cristiano de Castro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Caricaca's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
