Betão Trigo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 7th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Betão Trigo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without César Pombal having to interfere. São Paulo F.C's Vágner Gomes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ramiro Simão in the 17th minute of play. If Gustavo Araújo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vágner Gomes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustavo Araújo in the 24th minute of play. César Pombal made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Betão Trigo sent off a good shot on target. 28 minutes into the match, Cupijo's goalkeeper César Pombal had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adrianinho Urbano. Cupijo's Ramiro Simão got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Victor Viana managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cupijo's supporters rose to their feet, but Victor Viana was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vágner Gomes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 36th match minute, Cupijo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Laércio Seco to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice moves Adrianinho Urbano could shoot a difficult shot in the 38th minute, which César Pombal however easily saved by the left post. Adrianinho Urbano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. César Pombal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gustavo Araújo was the one to do the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ramiro Simão got free with Vágner Gomes in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
