The supporters of São Paulo booed when Piraguara SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Márcio Romero didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bruninho Leme in the 31st minute of play forced São Paulo's goalkeeper Herbert Svensson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 31 minutes, Paulinho Gomes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the São Paulo and the Piraguara SS players grew even worse after the yellow card. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ramón Cosme to make the kick off. In the 55th minute of the match, Bruninho Leme tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Herbert Svensson saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Bruninho Leme received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Herbert Svensson came out and tried to block the shot, but Bruninho Leme slotted it home off the left post making it 2-4 in the 56th minute. Bruninho Leme recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ramón Cosme received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Dênis Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bruninho Leme could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 72nd minute of the match, but Herbert Svensson made a huge save. In the 80th match minute, Piraguara SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edson Porto to maneuver through the defense. Håkan Lundin took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 81st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dênis Queirós. Piraguara SS's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Ronaldo Diniz hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. Emílio Cardozo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dênis Queirós having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bruninho Leme in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Herbert Svensson saved São Paulo from getting behind. Agostinho das Neves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Herbert Svensson having to interfere. 95 minutes into the match, São Paulo's goalkeeper Herbert Svensson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bruninho Leme. Piraguara SS's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
