Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 33 played minutes Taboca got a freekick which was hit by Lino Falcão. Sunderland A.F.C's Rubens de Salles got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Caio de Queiroz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rubens de Salles in the 37th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rubens de Salles in the 40th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Caio de Queiroz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Rubens de Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dráusio Linhares to make the kick off. Dráusio Linhares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The attack was good, but when Dráusio Linhares in the 54th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rubens de Salles got free with Caio de Queiroz in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Caio de Queiroz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dráusio Linhares in the 62nd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dráusio Linhares in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Caio de Queiroz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Luisinho Godoi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Abelardo Toscano read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 65th minute of play. In the 65th minute, Frederico Lira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Rubens de Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 72 minutes, Dráusio Linhares took a quick shot and it went in 0-4 without a chance for Caio de Queiroz to make any attempt to save it. Dráusio Linhares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Taboca getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Guilherme Siqueira hit a great ball.
