The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Vladimir Bittencourt fell near the penalty area in the 5th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored A. A. Veterana's protests and gave Vladimir Bittencourt a yellow card for diving instead. A. A. Veterana:s Lenílson Branco showed great skill when he stopped Osmar Macedo:s penalty. Thiago Valle sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 16 minutes into the game, Josué Toledo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ivape's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave A. A. Veterana the free kick. After a rather tough play, Ivape's Josué Toledo got a free kick in the 16th minute. In a very dangerous position, a player in Ivape fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 18th minute. Penalty! Perivaldo Falcão sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Enio Toledo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edvaldo Penha in the 27th minute of play. If Edvaldo Penha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When José Augusto Simões fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored A. A. Veterana's protests and gave José Augusto Simões a yellow card for diving instead. After 35 played minutes A. A. Veterana got a freekick which was hit by José Augusto Simões. In the 38th minute, Dorian Rocha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 41st minute of the match Ivape got a corner. A. A. Veterana's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Osmar Macedo ran over to the corner to take the kick. If Thiago Valle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thiago Valle struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Lenílson Branco didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ivape. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Walmir Arruda made a kick off. Alexandre Félix recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alexandre Félix in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lenílson Branco saved A. A. Veterana from getting behind. Enio Toledo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edvaldo Penha went, in the 66th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Enio Toledo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Perivaldo Falcão in the 70th minute of the match. The supporters of A. A. Veterana booed when Ivape was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexandre Félix didn't get a good kick on the ball. Enio Toledo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Perivaldo Falcão's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. If Thiago Valle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Luciano Pontes charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luciano Pontes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Luciano Pontes kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. In the 86th minute, Walmir Arruda ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lenílson Branco was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. In the 90th minute, Enéas Nascimento hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Edvaldo Penha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thiago Valle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lenílson Branco having to interfere.
