Ivo Neves started the match with the kick off. Maurício Netto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 3rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 4 minutes, Hernani Amorim mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Formosa and the S.C.Canastra Paulista players grew even worse after the yellow card. Hernani Amorim hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. The S.C.Canastra Paulista fans' excitement grew in the 5th match minute when S.C.Canastra Paulista's Frederico Carneiro looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 8 minutes into the game, Carlos Fernando Bezerra was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. S.C.Canastra Paulista's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Formosa the free kick. The supporters of Formosa booed when S.C.Canastra Paulista was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Fernando Bezerra didn't get a good kick on the ball. Frederico Carneiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 18th minute, Ivo Neves got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Murillo Barreto succeeded in the game's 20th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Murillo Barreto managed to get in a good position for a shot. Formosa's supporters rose to their feet, but Murillo Barreto was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Betão Sá breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fabiano Zanette took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frederico Carneiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Maurício Netto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabiano Zanette having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ivo Neves in the 32nd minute of play forced S.C.Canastra Paulista's goalkeeper Betão Sá to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 35 minutes into the match, Ivo Neves notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of S.C.Canastra Paulista's Betão Sá. Betão Sá was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After the first half Formosa were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After 54 minutes Formosa's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Naldo Goiano who took care of the corner kick. After 56 played minutes Formosa got a freekick which was hit by Luizão Duarte. A collision led to Formosa getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Gláuber Miranda hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, S.C.Canastra Paulista's Naldo Goiano tried to score from far away in the 69th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. If Murillo Barreto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Formosa booed when S.C.Canastra Paulista was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tostão Paraibano didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 79th minute of the match Germano Velloso sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Betão Sá skillfully saved the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Formosa's zone, Frederico Carneiro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabiano Zanette came out of the goal and Frederico Carneiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Formosa had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
