The THE PHOENIX fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jorge Rocha should have stopped the shot. 56 minutes into the match, THE PHOENIX's Angelo Lopes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ivo Berger narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 61st minute, Benjamim Dracena ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jorge Rocha was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Maranhão Futebol Clube's Eusébio Almeida got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Diamantino Machado couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Maranhão Futebol Clube's Ivo Berger got control of the ball when Diamantino Machado tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to THE PHOENIX getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Anderson do Nascimento hit a great ball. Egídio Vander received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Jorge Rocha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 93rd minute, Egídio Vander made a precise shot to the right of Jorge Rocha. THE PHOENIX's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. For all the effort they put into the match, the THE PHOENIX players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Maranhão Futebol Clube.
