Valdemar Koehler showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Durval da Mata, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. 7 minutes into the game, Eusébio Barral was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Jacu's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Galatius the free kick. A collision led to Galatius getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Durval da Mata hit a great ball. 13 minutes into the match, Jacu's Ediberto Amaral broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. 15 minutes into the match, Galatius's goal looked a bit too open when Mané Meirelles came free, but Régis Moura reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Jacu booed when Galatius was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronaldinho Maciel didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mané Meirelles in the 24th minute of play forced Galatius's goalkeeper Régis Moura to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Régis Moura made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mané Meirelles in the 26th minute of play. Benê Ferreira's late challenge caught a Jacu's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Benê Ferreira helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Galatius's Benê Ferreira got a free kick in the 27th minute. Galatius's Régis Moura played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mané Meirelles in the 30th minute of play. After having played for 33 minutes, Mané Meirelles managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jacu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mané Meirelles was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Galatius's Didi de Azevedo got a free kick in the 33rd minute. If Kléber Novaes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vitinho Peixoto hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. 46 minutes had been played when some careless play by Jacu's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Alessandro Barros was slow to take the kick. During this time Galatius's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kléber Novaes in the 48th minute of play forced Jacu's goalkeeper Valdemar Koehler to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mané Meirelles was the one to do the kick off. Kléber Novaes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Galatius's Ademar de Senna got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Aloísio Luz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Régis Moura having to interfere. After 68th play minutes Kléber Novaes shot 2-1, a short shot which went by Valdemar Koehler and just under the crossbar into goal. An unexpected shot in the 76th minute by Aloísio Luz got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. A collision led to Galatius getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Ronaldinho Maciel hit a great ball. In the 83rd minute, Ediberto Amaral sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Galatius's Régis Moura didn't even have to move. Eusébio Barral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Régis Moura tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 96 minutes into the match, Galatius's goal looked a bit too open when Mané Meirelles came free, but Régis Moura reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 98th minute, Aloísio Luz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Jacu's supporters rose to their feet, but Aloísio Luz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Régis Moura breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The Galatius players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
