Francisco Simões was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Silas Sousa. After 14 minutes, Zézinho Leão mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Camboata EC and the America PE players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 14 played minutes Camboata EC got a freekick which was hit by Zézinho Leão. In the 17th minute of the match America PE got a corner. Camboata EC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tomás Dracena ran over to the corner to take the kick. Tomás Dracena made a great header on America PE's corner, it was just that Camboata EC's Francisco Simões managed to reach the ball for a save. When Zézinho Leão was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 17 minutes had been played. After a rather tough play, Camboata EC's Zézinho Leão got a free kick in the 18th minute. Enrique Xavier who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 20thth minute tested the skills of Francisco Simões when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Juarês Neiva hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. With his leg Francisco Simões managed to avoid a goal in the 23rdth minute, when America PE's Enrique Xavier fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 28th match minute, America PE was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antônio Carlos Passos to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Camboata EC's Francisco Simões got control of the ball when Enrique Xavier tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 36 played minutes America PE got a freekick which was hit by Diogo Soeiro. After some careless play in the America PE defense, César Paraense kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Amílton Dracena. The America PE fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Amílton Dracena should have stopped the shot. Enrique Xavier could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Francisco Simões made a huge save. America PE's Amílton Dracena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juarês Neiva in the 45th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

Enrique Xavier's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Francisco Simões read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. After having played for 53 minutes, Enrique Xavier managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. America PE's supporters crossed their fingers, but Enrique Xavier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Camboata EC's zone, Dagoberto Fernandes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Francisco Simões came out of the goal and Dagoberto Fernandes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When America PE's Enrique Xavier, in the 57th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for America PE. Enrique Xavier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 61st minute, Antônio Carlos Passos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Francisco Simões was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. Francisco Simões stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Enrique Xavier's shot from short distance in the 65th minute. 69 minutes into the match, Camboata EC's goal looked a bit too open when Antônio Carlos Passos came free, but Francisco Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 72nd minute, Juarês Neiva hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Enrique Xavier charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Enrique Xavier the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Amílton Dracena made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Juarês Neiva sent off a good shot on target. In the 91st minute of the match Silas Sousa shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Francisco Simões showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Enrique Xavier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Francisco Simões tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Antônio Carlos Passos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Francisco Simões having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by César Paraense in the 96th minute of play forced America PE's goalkeeper Amílton Dracena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Camboata EC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
