But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marcos Arruda couldn't finish the play. Amílton Massa charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Curva de Rio's Romeu Velasco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agnaldo Vaz in the 20th minute of play. Agnaldo Vaz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romeu Velasco having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Agnaldo Vaz in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Romeu Velasco saved Curva de Rio from getting behind. A collision led to Itirussu FC getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Mathias Cavalcante hit a great ball. 34 minutes into the match, Jano Medeiros notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Itirussu FC's Nelson Sousa. Nelson Sousa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Curva de Rio's Romeu Velasco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agnaldo Vaz in the 43rd minute of play.

Nelson Sousa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dadá Secco, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. After a rather tough play, Itirussu FC's Serafim Urbano got a free kick in the 55th minute. Nelson Sousa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ademar Viana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. André Luís Lira's late challenge caught a Curva de Rio's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. André Luís Lira helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Itirussu FC getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. André Luís Lira hit a great ball. If Jeremias Rosado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 63 minutes into the match, Curva de Rio's Jano Medeiros sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nelson Sousa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Marcos Arruda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nelson Sousa having to interfere. After having played for 70 minutes, Jano Medeiros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Curva de Rio's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jano Medeiros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Itirussu FC getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Alexsandro Cabral hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcos Arruda in the 74th minute of play forced Itirussu FC's goalkeeper Nelson Sousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nelson Sousa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jano Medeiros in the 85th minute of play. Agnaldo Vaz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romeu Velasco having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the Itirussu FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Curva de Rio.
