El Barco Pirata's Leonel Madureira got a good chance for a goal in the 3rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 8 minutes into the match, Papary EC's goal looked a bit too open when Guga Gerber came free, but Jorge Zonta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Guga Gerber managed to get in a good position for a shot. El Barco Pirata's supporters rose to their feet, but Guga Gerber was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jorge Zonta breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in Papary EC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 11th minute. Penalty! Jorge Zonta had in the 13thth minute some difficulties stopping Eusébio de Toledo's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After a rather tough play, Papary EC's Baltazar de Almeida got a free kick in the 15th minute. Zé Augusto Ferraz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Gustavo Valle having to interfere. In the 25th minute Zé Augusto Ferraz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Gustavo Valle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Leonel Madureira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Zonta having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Zé Augusto Ferraz in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luís Gustavo Valle prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Guga Gerber came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the El Barco Pirata fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guga Gerber couldn't finish the play. Leonel Madureira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 43rd minute, Leonel Madureira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Adilson Rodrigues recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 47 minutes, Leonel Madureira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. El Barco Pirata's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leonel Madureira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

El Barco Pirata's Luís Gustavo Valle played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Augusto Ferraz in the 57th minute of play. When Adilson Rodrigues fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored El Barco Pirata's protests and gave Adilson Rodrigues a yellow card for diving instead. 61 minutes into the match, El Barco Pirata's goal looked a bit too open when Amadeu Rossi came free, but Luís Gustavo Valle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luís Gustavo Valle showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amadeu Rossi, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. If Guga Gerber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
